A provisional bus stop serving the rehabilitation hospital in Ka-Ho has been scrapped as buses operating along the route are too big for the stop, Director of Transport Kelvin Lam revealed in response to queries from lawmaker Ron Lam.
The official said route No 21 was previously rerouted to include a stop at the hospital.
“However, due to increasing demands, buses on the route have been upgraded to larger vehicles, rendering them unable to enter the provisional stop,” the transport official explained. As such, the provisional stop was canceled.
To compensate for the discontinued stop, arrangements have been made with the bus operator to allow passengers to remain on the bus despite arriving at the Ka-Ho Fuel Oil Terminal terminus stop, allowing them to alight at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church bus stop to access the rehabilitation hospital.
In response to further questions, the official pledged that further assessments would be undertaken to explore the feasibility of establishing a direct bus route between the rehabilitation hospital in Ka-Ho and the Cotai hospital.
In response to the lawmaker’s question regarding bus services connecting the Cotai hospital, which is set to open on Dec. 20, the official said negotiations had already been undertaken with bus operators. The plan involves detouring some existing routes to include the new medical venue. Bus stops and auxiliary facilities will be added nearby and further announcements will be made once details are available, the official said. AL
