A Racing Legacy,” a series of outreach activities celebrating Macau’s rich motorsports history, has been launched to inspire the next generation of racing enthusiasts in the lead-up to the 71st Macau Grand Prix.
The series kicked off yesterday with the opening of the “A Racing Legacy – Drivers’ Collection Exhibition” at the Macau Grand Prix Museum. Co-organized with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and SJM Resorts’ (SJM) long-term partner Theodore Racing, the exhibition showcases an exclusive collection of cherished racing memorabilia, including autographed helmets, gloves, and racing suits from past outstanding racers.
“For many years, SJM has partnered with the government to pursue a ‘Sports + Tourism’ strategy to advance local motorsport development and promote Macau as a vibrant tourism destination on the international stage,” said Daisy Ho, managing director of SJM.
“Through this special exhibition, we hope to strengthen the community’s connection to Macau’s racing heritage and inspire the next generation to carry the torch forward.”
The event was attended by over 50 local students, who were treated to a sharing session with Macau’s rising racing star, Charles Leong. Leong, who is enthusiastically supported by SJM and Theodore Racing, recounted his journey in motorsport and shared insights into his career success, encouraging the young enthusiasts to bravely pursue their dreams.
Leong said racing is a strategic endeavor that requires calm critical thinking and cooperation with the team. He underscored the importance of commitment and passion, reflecting on his deep love for the sport and the sacrifices required to pursue it.
“If you like something, you will not give up because of some setbacks. It depends on how big your commitment is,” he said.
As a driver from Macau, Leong takes great pride in representing his home region, highlighting how the Macau Grand Prix serves as a significant cultural and sporting identity for the city. Leong expressed a desire to continue developing as a driver while also mentoring younger racers, underscoring the collaborative spirit within the racing community.
In addition to the exhibition, SJM will host the “A Racing Legacy – Lamborghini Supercar Display” at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, showcasing two Lamborghini supercars – Revuelto and Huracan Tecnica – from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1. The display will be complemented by street dance and magic performances every weekend, creating a motorsport carnival vibe in the city.
The “A Racing Legacy” outreach activities are part of SJM’s ongoing efforts to celebrate Macau’s rich racing heritage and inspire the next generation of motorsports enthusiasts. The exhibitions and events will run until Feb. 3, 2025, providing locals and visitors alike with an immersive experience that pays tribute to Macau’s enduring legacy as a global motorsports destination.
