Rotary Club of Macau to invest in mental health projects under new leadership

The Rotary Club of Macau will invest in mental health following the lingering effects of the pandemic prevention measures among Macau’s society fabric.

Joao Pinto, the 77th president of the Rotary Club of Macau, has stressed the importance that mental health projects will be accorded during his tenure.

The club will be sponsoring three different mental health projects during his tenure as president.

One involves a competition to be held among all secondary schools in Macau, while the other will be developed at the University of Macau. The third project takes place in Hong Kong and Macau and will deliver a series of Mental Health First Aid Training courses to provide participants with greater in-depth knowledge and hands-on training to help people with mental health needs.

The announcement was made at the joint inauguration ceremony of the new club leaders of the Rotary Club of Macau, Rotaract Club of Macau, Rotaract Club of University of Macau Students’ Union and Interact Club of St. Paul’s School of Macau for the 2023-24 Rotary Year.

Each year, the joint ceremony officiates the passing of the baton from outgoing to incoming club presidents.

Outgoing 76th president of the Rotary Club of Macau, Li Ying, highlighted the projects and achievements of the club, saying, “We had an extraordinary year of serving the local community and the world, with all of the four outgoing presidents, myself included, being female. With the Rotary International President of this last year also being the first female president in Rotary history, we are a true testament to increased diversity in Rotary leadership and vision.”

Also during the ceremony, Pinto presented a check of 15,000 MOP to support activities at the Concordia School for Special Education. Staff Reporter
