Septuagenarian accused of unlawful appropriation of mobile phone

A 73-year-old local man is being accused of having unlawfully appropriated a mobile phone that he found on the street, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) reported yesterday during the joint press conference of the police forces.
The case occurred on May 4 when a 14-year-old girl mistakenly left her mobile phone at a public leisure area in the area nearby the Alameda da Tranquilidade in the northern district.
The girl, accompanied by her father, reported to the PSP that the girl had left the phone behind and just a few minutes later when they returned to where she had left it upon realizing, it was gone.
The PSP started to investigate the case and, making use of the street surveillance cameras, they spotted and identified the suspect.
On July 2, the police took the man into custody and during the investigation, he admitted to having found and kept the mobile phone.
According to the victim’s testimony at the time of the complaint, the phone had a value of around 2,500 patacas.
The septuagenarian is now being accused of “unlawful appropriation of found thing” according to Article 200 of the Macau Penal Code, and is facing a sentence of up to 1 year of imprisonment, or a fine of up to 120 days. RM
