Tourist arrivals see double digit rise in Oct

Despite the plunge in gaming revenue in October, the amount of visitors arriving last month increased by 11 percent annually to 2.65 million according to the data gathered by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). This rise can be attributed to the long  National Day and Chung Yeung Festival holidays.
An analysis of the figures by DSEC has found that the amount of visitors from mainland China has surged by 20 percent year-on-year to 1.82 million. More than 860,000 of them came from Guangdong and Fujian Provinces. Figures also show that the number of tourists travelling under the individual Visit Scheme rose by 18 percent, at 798,110.
Regarding visitors from other countries and regions, DSEC discovered a rise of 17 percent in the amount of tourists from the Republic of Korea, which reached 45,119 in October. Japanese visitors also increased by two percent to 21,889. However, there was an 11 percent decrease in the number of visitors from Taiwan and a 6 percent decrease in those coming from Hong Kong. Long-haul visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom registered a year-on-year decline as well.
Moreover, among the 2.65 million tourists who arrived in October, 55 percent of them, or 1.47 million, were same-day visitors. The average length of stay remained unchanged from a year earlier, at 1.0 day, with overnight and same-day visitors staying an average of 2.0 days and 0.2 day respectively. JPL
