A tour bus has collided with a motorcycle on the very same crossroad where, one week ago, a police vehicle hit a motorcycle, causing injuries to the rider.
This second accident took place on Saturday morning in very similar conditions with the Public Security Police Force (PSP) stating that the cause of the traffic accident was, as in the first case, the fact that the tour bus driver did not see the red traffic light as it was obscured by another bus that was stopped at this area.
This is the second time in less than one week that an accident has taken place at this location involving vehicles circulating in the Rua do Almirante Sergio failing to stop at the red light and colliding with those crossing the road from the Travessa do Dr. Lourenço Pereira Marques.
This time, the two people on the motorcycle also sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Kiang Wu Hospital to receive medical treatment.
The PSP has noted that visibility may be affected by public busses that stop to pick up and drop off passenger at the nearby bus stop. They can temporarily affect vision of the traffic light.
Still, the road, as with most in Macau, also has the same light placed on the right side of the road.
According to Hui Ho Chi, a member of the Transport Advisory Committee heard by TDM, an inspection on site could help to understand the reasons of the recent accidents.
However, he suggest that vehicles, namely buses, being stopped on the road should itself alert drivers to be cautious.
An observation made by the Times suggests that some of the vertical signage, such as the warning signal for the traffic light ahead, is placed in between pillars of a building and is only partially visible to road users, a fact that may contribute to the accidents.
