The Visual Art Exhibition of the 4th Cycle of “Lusophone Polychromies” officially opened Oct. 21, showcasing a vibrant array of works from contemporary artists across Brazil, East Timor and Macau. The exhibition is hosted at the Gallery on the Basement Level 1 of the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Rua Sul de Entre Lagos, Macau.
The opening ceremony attracted notable figures, including Ji Xianzheng, Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, and consuls from Angola, Portugal and Mozambique. Artists Maria Madeira from East Timor and Wilson Lam Chi Ian from Macau also attended, adding to the event’s cultural richness.
This exhibition is part of the 16th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. It features striking photography by Brazilian artist Luiz Bhering, who captures the essence of Rio de Janeiro’s landscapes and people. Madeira presents her acclaimed works that recently graced the Venice Biennale, while Lam’s colorful oil paintings reflect Macau’s unique cultural tapestry.
In his remarks, Ji emphasized the significance of this cultural initiative in fostering dialogue and understanding among Sino-Lusophone communities. He noted that these artistic expressions highlight the diverse cultural narratives interwoven in Macau.
The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from Oct. 21 to Nov. 24, Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed Mondays). Visitors are encouraged to explore this celebration of art that bridges cultures and promotes creative exchange. Nadia Shaw
