The Hou Kong Junior Chamber kicked off this year’s senior-youth event Sunday with the aim to promote health through physical exercise.
This is the third year the group has organized the event, which mainly involves interactions between youths and seniors, such as familiarizing seniors with new technologies and fostering domestic harmony with psychological skills.
“This year, we will [promote physical education], giving participants certain tasks to be completed within 35 days. This will provide opportunity for participating youths and their senior counterparts to interact,” Kevin Ng, president of the group, said on the sidelines of yesterday’s event.
Thirty-five days later, on Jul. 23, there will be a sports day at Choi Kou Middle School, which Ng said would welcome members of the public and those who had already signed up for the tasks.
“We expect 300 people, which equates to 150 pairs, to participate in the sports day, which will comprise certain newer types of sport, such as pickleball, for participants to keep up with trends,” Ng further introduced.
When asked about the physical nature of the event, Ng said that physical activity is crucial to all age groups. “We also want to bridge people from different generations to ease generational tension and friction,” he said.
The main goal of the event is to allow youths to promote new knowledge to seniors, while the latter widen horizons for the former against hardship and challenges, Ng concluded. AL
