Arts | Typography exhibition to open tomorrow

2_Weingart-TypografieOver 200 masterpieces of graphic design by international typographer Wolfgang Weingart will be showcased in the “Weingart Typography” exhibition, which is set to open tomorrow at Tap Seac Gallery.
According to a press release, the exhibition, especially curated for Weingart by the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, has been developed from the museum’s own collection, which displays in various themes Weingart’s experimental works of “Circular Compositions” and “Line Pictures”, various experiments and studies of ‘The Letter M’, as well as his teaching accomplishments.
The typography teacher at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel revolutionized modern Swiss typography, inscribing a new chapter in world design history. In the 1970s, he mounted halftone films to form collages and had these printed in offset, anticipating the digital sampling of the post-modern “New Wave”.
The exhibition has been organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau with the support of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Design Institute, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, and Connecting Spaces Hong Kong –
Zurich.
The organizer aims to share the creative accomplishments of the international typographer with the public. The exhibition will be held until June 12. Admission is  free.
