Typhoon signal No.1 hoisted as Hainan-bound storm nears

The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) raised typhoon signal No.1 at 10 p.m. last night as a tropical depression detected about 770 kilometers southeast of the city was seen moving through the South China Sea.
This is a precaution signal, the bureau said, however it is likely that the warning will be replaced with a higher signal later today.
The path of the tropical depression suggests it will make landfall in Hainan Island tomorrow after traveling on a westerly course throughout today.
According to the SMG, the weather in Macau will be unsettled on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The weather authority said yesterday that the possibility of raising typhoon signal No.3 later this evening was “relatively high.”
The SMG advises the public to pay attention to the latest weather information. DB
