A UK trial to see if giving people different Covid vaccines for first and second doses works as well as giving them the same one twice concluded that the mix returns better results.
People’s immune response “could be enhanced” by combining the vaccines, England’s deputy chief medical officer, Prof Jonathan Van-Tam, told the BBC yesterday.
More than 10 million people in the UK have now received a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
According to the British public broadcaster, the number of Covid-19 cases in England is down 29% week-on-week, the lowest number since the week to 16 December.
A total of 196,257 people tested positive for Covid-19 in England at least once in the week to 27 January, according to the latest ‘Test and Trace’ figures, health authorities announced.
Globally, there have now been more than 104 million Covid cases, and more than 2.2 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
