Macau has recorded, so far, the best tourism arrival results for this year with a daily score-bar rising over 30,000 visitors per day for three consecutive days, statistic figures published by the Public Security Police Force (PSP) show.
Last Friday (February 25), there was a significant growth registered with the number of arrivals, bringing the total to 34,247 people.
Saturday was even better for tourism numbers with this year’s new daily record reaching 37,229 visitors entering Macau in a single day.
On Sunday, until 9 p.m., another 21,697 people had crossed the border into Macau adding to the good results of the weekend.
In the week of February 18 to 24, a total of 171,288 visitors arrived in Macau, establishing a daily average of 24,470. The figure, which has been slowly growing since the start of this year, represented an increase of 9.2% compared with the daily average in January 2022.
To recall that during the week-long Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays, the average number of visitor arrivals was around 20,000 per day, a figure that was considered below the expectations of the government as well as the different economic sectors, which were expecting more visitors to be attracted to visit Macau during the festive season.
During CNY, the highest single-day number of visitors reached was nearly 22,000, which was recorded on the third day of the Lunar New Year (February 3).
Coincidentally, this was the first weekend after the launch of the Macao Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) new promotional scheme to attract more visitors to Macau from new markets in the mainland.
The new scheme, titled “My Treat for You, See You in Macao,” offers significant benefits for people booking trips to Macau on a range of online platforms including half-price airfares and hotel discounts.
Still, the scheme is not yet responsible for the growth registered as the arrivals via the airport continue to range between 1,000 to 2,000 per day.
