Macau International Airport (MIA) is seeking to expand its international route network. The operator said it is working with airlines to initiate new long-haul services connecting Macau to Europe and the United States. This would allow for a one-ticket option with baggage that can be checked through. A new route to Laos will soon launch as part of efforts to constantly expand MIA’s network internationally. These expanded routes are key to supporting Macau’s tourism goals by attracting more global visitors, as traffic saw nearly 30% growth during China’s recent Golden Week versus last year. Overall passenger and flight activity during the week-long holiday recovered to around 82% and 77% of pre-pandemic levels, respectively, in 2019.
