Telecoms top complaints to Consumer Council

The Macau Consumer Council (CC) reportedly received around 7,500 requests during 2015. Of these requests, 5,499 were requests for information, 1,914 were complaints, and 26 were suggestions. Topping the list of complaints was the telecommunications sector, with a total of 450 complaints regarding both equipment and services. Following telecommunications were cases involving real estate reaching 153 complaints, and then the public transportation system with 128 complaints.  The Food and Beverages sector ranked fourth, with 123 complaints. These sectors comprise almost 45 percent of the total number of complaints. Details regarding the requests received by the CC are due to be published shortly and can be accessed in the new issue of the Council’s magazine “The Consumer.”

UM wins two prizes in mathematical contest

The University of Macau (UM) announced in a press release yesterday that two of its student teams placed second at the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling of China (CUMCM), the largest mathematical modeling contest in the world. This is the second consecutive year in which UM has won prizes. The contest attracted over 28,000 teams from across the country this year, 14 of which came from Macau. CUMCM is organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and is a national contest in the field of mathematical modeling.

CABE to open a chapter in the region

The Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE), which offers the  qualification of Building Engineer, is opening a branch in Macau.  Last year, Jacky Shack, a CABE Hong Kong Chapter member gave a talk about the association and its way of offering chartered membership to students in the School of Continuing Studies, Macau University of Science and Technology. CABE has also recently recognized two Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) degrees in architecture. The association has 12 offices located in the United Kingdom and Ireland.  Apart from having recently opened a branch in Macau, CABE chapters will also be opened in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and Malaysia.
