TSI confirms legality of pediatrician’s termination

A judgment from the Court of Second Instance (TSI) supported a Secretary’s decision to fire a pediatrician who previously worked in the Macau Public Hospital and was accused of poor professional conduct, the Portuguese language newspaper Tribuna de Macau reported.
The TSI’s decision confirms a prior decision from the Court of First Instance (TJB) that stated that the decision to sack the medical doctor issued by the Secretary of Social Affairs and Culture is justifiable due to the fact that the doctor was said to frequently abandon his post during working hours to make long phone calls as well as the fact that he was also practicing medicine in six other private clinics simultaneously.
The doctor had appealed the Secretary’s order, claiming that for more than 25 years of medical practice he has received good performance evaluations. RM
