Following the incident involving a tourist bus running into a building last week, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) has announced that it will ban tour coaches to drop off or pick up passengers along Rua da Entena, where the accident occurred.
To avoid further fatal accidents, DSAT has announced that heavy vehicles, including tourist buses, would be banned from dropping off or picking up passengers in part of Rua da Entena, between Rua Belchior Carneiro and Rua Tomas Vieira.
According to Sio Iat Pang from the Transport Bureau, tourist buses would be issued a fine of MOP600 if they violate the measure.
“We will still need to ask the police to strengthen the law enforcement situation in the related area,” he explained.
Sio added that the bureau should create a “comprehensive analysis” as to whether it would ban all tourists’ buses from entering the area of Ruins of St Paul.
The tour bus, which crashed into a building on Rua da Entena, left 32 passengers hurt, while four of the victims were seriously injured.
Legislators considered the fatal accident as a wakeup call to the government regarding traffic congestion surrounding popular tourist sites. LV
