Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel Meets Portugal's Prime Minister Antonio Costa

During October 10 and 11, the StartUP Macau Forum promises two days of startup related events to strenghten the cooperation between Portugal and China. Portuguese prime minister Antonio Costa will officiate the closing ceremony. Organizers of the event expect to engage people in new ideas and innovative business solutions to help to develop the future Macau Entrepreneurial and Innovation Centre. The first day of the forum will consist of workshops with special facilitators to help the teams for the pitch competition that will occur on the second day. The sessions include topics such as Designing a Business Model, Preparing a Pitch Deck and Training the Pitch. The sessions will be supervised by experts from Fábrica de Startups and from local universities as well as other entrepreneurship related entities like CESL Asia. The event will take place at the Macau Science Centre.

First 100 days of panda cubs marked

The twin panda cubs’ first 100 days were celebrated on Monday. The two panda cubs, Jian Jian and Kang Kang, are expected to meet the public during the Chinese New Year, José Tavares, chairman of the Administration Committee of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau informed during the celebratory event.  Following their first appearance on the Chinese holiday, the pandas will keep being available for visits. Jian Jian and Kang Kang will stay with their parents at the current panda house, although the space is reportedly not enough for all the pandas to be exhibited. Tavares pointed out that the panda house needs to be expanded.

35 taxi overcharging cases on first two days of holiday

On October 1 and 2 the Public Security Police Force investigated 35 taxi overcharging cases, in addition to 17 cases pertaining to detours and refusals to take passengers, as noted in a statement released by the PSP earlier this week. Moreover, 18 illegal car hire services have been confirmed, 17 of which were related to app-based taxi hailing services. Last month, the Transport Bureau reported that it had received over 1, 540 complaints related to taxis between January and August of this year. From this figure,  467 of the complaints were about overcharging. The total number of complaints increased 20 percent year-on-year, with overcharging occurrences being 37.3 percent higher than in the first eight months of 2015.
