Authorities have announced the results of a major law enforcement operation targeting cross-border organized crime, leading to the prosecution of 779 individuals.
The operation, dubbed “Operation Thunder 2024,” was carried out by Macau’s law enforcement agencies in collaboration with counterparts from Guangdong and Hong Kong.
According to officials, the individuals were referred to judicial authorities on a range of charges, including loan sharking, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and money laundering.
Officially initiated on June 22, the operation has mobilized over 12,000 police personnel and conducted more than 1,000 surprise inspections across various locations.
The operation’s extensive reach included 2,895 locations, resulting in the identification of 92,070 individuals and the arrest of 2,651 suspected criminals.
On Aug. 15, a significant joint operation targeted entertainment venues in Macau, including casinos and nightclubs.
This coordinated effort involved 354 police and customs officers, supported by police dog teams and maritime patrols.
During this operation, 2,240 individuals were intercepted, leading to further investigations of 34 individuals, including five for overstaying their visas. Nadia Shaw
