CE praises post-typhoon work

Chief Executive Chui Sai On yesterday praised the contribution to post-typhoon relief work by personnel from the government’s various finance and economic departments. During a meeting with some of them, Chui pledged that the government would “spare no effort in advancing Macau’s response mechanism system for dealing with emergencies; in particular, measures relating to the release of meteorological information and the coordination of search and rescue work,” according to a statement issued by the Government Information Bureau. The CE also said that “to solve the flooding issues concerning Macau’s low-lying areas, the government has drawn up a detailed plan, covering [the] construction of a cross-boundary flood prevention system.”

Taipa water pipe bursts

The Macao Water Supply Company said in a statement that a water pipe in Taipa had burst yesterday, but no customers in the area were affected. The damaged pipe is located on Rua Seng Tou, near Taipa Central Park. Macao Water responded by dispatching an emergency team, which closed the nearby gate valves to quickly halt the leak. After an evaluation, Macao Water observed that the broken pipe is a 100mm-diameter steel water pipe used only to provide water to fire hydrants in that area. The company said it believed the burst was “due to the displacement of the pipe joint.” It said it has notified those responsible to repair the pipe.
