Briefs | GBA railway network plan expected in 2019

The unveiling of a railway network plan for the Greater Bay Area (GBA) is expected to be introduced in the first half of this year, according to Ge Changwei, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission. Ge also said that by 2035, the GBA will “fully become a world-class bay area.”  In the first half of this year, the Guangdong, Macau, and Hong Kong governments will organize joint overseas promotion activities to expand the influence of the GBA. In addition, according to Ge, Guangdong is planning to build a world-class airport group in the GBA, and the province will seek to enhance cooperation with the SARs’ airports.

Burmese have little inclination to work in Macau

The first intention of a Myanmar worker is to get a job in Singapore, since people from Myanmar have little inclination to work in Macau, according to the director of the Macau Myanmar Overseas Chinese Association. Macau has a total of 2,467 workers from Myanmar, according to the Association. According to the association’s director, these nationals work mainly as security, domestic helpers or restaurant staff.

More trash spotted at Inner Harbor

Significant amounts of trash have recently appeared in the coastal area of the Inner Harbor. Yesterday, the Marine and Water Bureau dispatched a team to clean it up. The bureau said that on a daily basis it collects approximately 500 kilograms of marine refuse. Recently, the amount of collected refuse has increased by 20 to 30 percent. The bureau noted that in the coastal area of both the Inner Harbor and Fai Chi Kei, marine refuse consists mainly of domestic trash which even includes large pieces of rubbish such as sofas, mattresses and refrigerators.

Number of old dumpsters  reduced by 90pct

The number of Macau’s conventional 1,100-liter dumpsters has been reduced by nearly 90 percent from 1,600 during the peak period to 170, according to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), replaced with 130 closed garbage houses and 82 waste compactors. According to the IAM, each of the newly installed compactors is equivalent to more than 20 1,100-liter trash units. Currently, the institute cleans the compressed trash collectors once every day. In 2018, it completed the beautification of 16 compression bins.

Driver lodged false accusation after overcharge refusal

Recently, a taxi driver lodged a false accusation against his passengers after they refused to be overcharged. In total, there were four passengers who got in the driver’s vehicle at Cotai to go to the Border Gate. The driver asked for MOP300 for the trip, but his request was declined. Upon the refusal, the local man returned his vehicle to the pick-up spot and left it to go to the bathroom. During his absence, the passengers, who remained inside the vehicle, took information from his license and left. When he spotted his license being removed, the driver called the police saying that the passengers had stolen the license and MOP1,000 from him. The suspect is in his 30s with 38 previous records of infractions in the police system.
