BRIEFS | Special lane for buses from Barra to Border Gate

The Transport Bureau (DSAT) director Wong Wan revealed yesterday that the government plans to set up an exclusive express lane for buses from Barra to the Border Gate. “We have widened the relevant roads and improved the road conditions from Barra to Ponte 16. We will continue the work from there until Lam Mau Tong. We expect that the works (from Barra to Lam Mau Tong) will be completed by mid-2015. Private transport will certainly be restricted somewhat, and it could be that private transportation will be slower than the public [transportation], but we will minimize the impact,” Wong said, cited by TDM.

PJ catches HK boy dealing drugs in Macau

A 16-year-old Hong Kong resident has been detained after allegedly packaging drugs and selling them in Macau nightclubs. The Judiciary Police (PJ) said that they had received a tip-off suggesting that crime syndicates from Hong Kong had sent people to deal in Macau. PJ officials caught the Hong Kong boy in the early hours of yesterday. They found on him, and in a hotel room, a combined 95 bags of cocaine, with a total weight of 30 grams and a black market value of MOP60,000.

Customs cracks online tax-evading tobacco seller

The Macau Customs Service (SA) has launched a joint operation with the mainland authorities and foiled an online criminal syndicate selling cigarettes and cigars on the Internet. During the operation, the Zhuhai Public Security Department raided three websites and shops that sell cigarettes, and found some untaxed cigars that were worth more than RMB5 million. The SA customs superintendent, Cheng Kin Chong, said that the websites have not been in operation for very long. He believes that they employed parallel goods traders to deliver the products to or from Macau.

Man detained for elbow attack

A local man in his 30s has been detained by the Judiciary Police (PJ) after he attacked another man with his elbow. The incident caused the latter serious injury and he remains in  intensive care. Police information suggests that the incident took place around midday on Monday in Rua da Felicidade. The attacker was said to be chatting with others in a shop when the victim, who was seen to be holding a bottle and walking unsteadily, passed by the shop, took a u-turn, and put his hand on the shoulder of the man.The man then used his elbow to attack the victim and hit his chin. His victim then fell to the ground and was sent to the hospital. The victim was diagnosed as having suffered from hemorrhagic shock and a brain contusion.
