The Chief Executive (CE) Chui Sai On pledged to step up efforts to promote economic diversification and enhance social wellbeing during his Lunar New Year Message for the Year of the Rooster, delivered on Friday.
Reviewing the accomplishments of the Year of the Monkey, Chui noted that the government had completed the formulation of Macau’s first ever Five-Year Development Plan. The CE said that the government had been able to maintain Macau’s economic and social stability and its strong fiscal reserves, while prioritizing projects concerning the enhancement of social wellbeing.
Separately, on the same day, Chui claimed to have no knowledge about the plan reported by Hong Kong media of merging Macau, Zhuhai, and neighboring regions. “Until now, neither my position nor my office have received such information,” he said.
Chui noted that if he had received any information regarding said topic, he would be happy to share it with the public and to hear their opinions on the matter.
Chui remarked that Macau’s cooperation with Guangdong is being enhanced and emphasized that Macau is a special administrative region in the nation, meaning that it must comply with the one country – two systems policy.
