The Chinese team, represented by the Hunan Jingtai Fireworks company, has won the 26th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, followed by teams from Spain (second; pictured) and Australia (third).
The winning group took home a top prize of USD8,000, while those in second and third places were awarded USD4,000 and USD2,500 respectively.
A ceremony was held last week at the Macau Tower to award each team its prize. The director of the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO), who organized and attended the event, said that they tried to upgrade performance standards this year, bringing the audience “to a new level of enjoyment while encouraging residents to become part of the event.”
Helena de Senna Fernandes recalled that a new social network photo contest was held this year, while citizens were also keen to upload their own photos to a themed Facebook page.
The teams from Poland and Croatia debuted in this year’s competition, while pyrotechnic companies from Taiwan, China, South Korea, Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain also joined the event.
MGTO launched the first edition of the Macau International Fireworks Display back in 1989.
