Chui Sai Cheong, the vice president of the Legislative Assembly (AL) and older brother of the former Chief Executive (Chui Sai On), has been appointed by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong, to preside over the Council of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU). Chui Sai Cheong will replace former president Lei Heong Iok.
The government reappointed the director of Macao Daily News, Lok Po, as vice president of the Council. New members were also appointed to the Council, namely Leong Su Sam, Chan Ka Leong, Leonel Alves, Sio Hon Pan, Chan Hong (former lawmaker), Lao Wa Chi and Carlos André.
All the appointments are valid for a period of three years from April 1, 2023.
The Council is the body responsible for guiding the development of the University. From the nine members previously appointed by the government, only Chui Sai Cheong and Lok Po were retained, with Chui moving from the role of a regular member to the role of president.
According to the same dispatch from Ao Ieong in the government’s official gazette, Chui Sai Cheong is entitled to a monthly wage of 50,050 patacas, while Lok Po will earn some 25,025 patacas.
