The “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Rooster” presented an array of performances for residents and visitors on Monday, featuring 14 floats and 688 performers in procession.

Another float parade and finale show of cultural performances will be performed on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year (Saturday, February 4).

The entertainment on Monday included a float parade, procession of performance groups, finale show of cultural performances, fireworks display and exhibition of the parade floats.

The entire parade was broadcast live on two local TV stations and on LED screens installed at nine locations across the territory.

The parade was held under the theme of “All Birds Paying Homage to the

Phoenix for the Dawn of Spring” this year, according to a statement issued by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

The procession of floats and performance groups passed through Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen until they reached Sai Van Lake Square in front of the Macau Tower.

A finale show of cultural performances was then staged at Sai Van Lake Square.

Local singers Ari, Alan Tse and Viviana Lo joined hands with Hong Kong singers Fred Cheng and Joyce Cheng, followed by a fireworks display to conclude the celebrations.

MGTO director Helena de Senna Fernandes noted that the parade has become a signature annual event for the city.

She expressed her hopes that the festive event, combining colorful dimensions of different cultures, would bestow best wishes upon local residents and visitors from around the world.

In addition, MGTO said it will make continuous efforts to take the event to new heights each year.

This year, MGTO and Macao Cultural Heritage Reinventing Studies Association have jointly organized the “Chinese New Year Parade Float Snapshot” competition.

Until February 7, residents and visitors can upload their photos of the parade on Instagram using designated hashtags for the chance to win cash prizes.
