MGM China was selected as a top-15 global finalist for the esteemed “Stop Slavery Award” presented by the Thomson Reuters Foundation on Wednesday, the company announced in a statement yesterday, saying that the recognition “identifies MGM for its best practices and continued leadership in combatting human trafficking across the globe.”

In addition to holding events to bring together local stakeholders in the government and NGO sector, the company has held a number of internal anti-human trafficking training sessions for its employers.

It has also established a Vendor Code of Conduct, with provisions related to supplier workplace standards in an effort to eliminate child labor, forced labor and other violations of human rights.

“To be a finalist for such an esteemed award alongside other global enterprises is truly motivating,” Mr. Grant Bowie, CEO and executive director of MGM China said. “Over the past years, we have worked vigorously to highlight this important issue […] to put an end to modern-day slavery worldwide.”

Pullman opens first yueyang hotel located along dongting lake

Pullman has announced the opening of the brand’s first hotel in the historic city of Yueyang and its second in Hunan Province. Slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2018, Pullman Yueyang Oriental is located along the western shores of Dongting Lake.

The new hotel will be part of the Dongting Lake International Residences under Guangdong Huanghe Group. The 136-acre development comprises the 300-room hotel, a cluster of residential villas and an 18-hole golf course.

Part of the city’s development, Pullman Yueyang Oriental is the group’s key project in the lakeside vicinity. It is targeting both business and leisure travelers, offering an extensive range of dining and recreational facilities, as well as versatile meetings and events space, the company said.

“Yueyang attracts large crowds of tourists to its historical locations and scenic sites each year,” said Michel Molliet, chief operating officer of AccorHotels Greater China. “With a chic and welcoming service, Pullman Yueyang Oriental offers cosmopolitan travellers the perfect blend of work and play.”
