Representatives from Macau’s creative industries have voiced their concerns regarding the lack of human resources, the difficulties in expanding business and the pressure of rising rents, in a meeting held yesterday with the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On.
Macau’s leader took the opportunity to hear the suggestions and opinions of members of the Cultural Industries’ Fund and the Cultural Industries Committee. He pledged to assess their comments and recommendations, promising also to take them into account in future government decisions.
These representatives have said that the sector faces greater challenges when it comes to the lack of facilities and human resources, as well as the upward pressure on rents and the hurdles of expanding their businesses.
They have also suggested that the government should be promoting Macau as a brand in order to help the creative industries sector to expand into mainland China, as well as across the globe.
Creative industries representatives said that the importance of the Cultural Industries Fund should be reinforced to further support this sector and the government should provide a higher number of facilities for exhibitions and shows. In addition, they suggested the creation of a higher education degree focusing on culture and creative industries.
Chui Sai On said that the government is willing to discuss the optimization of current venues for exhibitions and shows. He added that Macau’s administration will also be looking into the possibility of having new facilities within reclamation land areas which are currently under development.
He said that the government will continue to support young people interested in pursuing a career within the creative industries field, but stipulated that Macau’s youth should ponder the risks of creating a business, too. CP
