A 66-year-old local man has been arrested on allegations of repeated acts of domestic violence against his wife, the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced.
The police disclosed that the couple has been married for 14 years.
On January 4, the woman in her 40’s reported to the PJ that she was physically attacked and verbally threatened by her husband at home.
During its investigation, the PJ uncovered that the man was charged with the same accusation in June 2021. The previous case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for court hearing.
The victim told the police that after the report last year, the suspect behaved better and did not enact violence against her until December, when the suspect’s mood deteriorated.
Conflicts reignited, and they began to have fights over trivial matters and financial problems. The suspect allegedly also forced the victim to resign from her job to take care of the family, threatening to commit suicide.
The developments in the situation in December compelled the victim to report the case to the police.
Domestic violence is a crime in Macau and violators face an imprisonment sentence between one to five years at least, along with possible additional punishments. AL
