The president of the Macau Food Festival’s coordination committee, Chan Chak Mo, has said that the festival organizer is likely to collaborate with the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) and participating business sponsors to use environmentally friendly cutlery.
The festival will take place between November 7 and 23 at the Praça do Lago Sai Van.
Chan Chak Mo said that they will pick around ten most commonly used types of cutlery and distribute them to the booths.
“It’s the cups and the dishes. They are not necessarily recyclable. They can be bio-degradable,” Mr Chan said.
He expected that the environmentally friendly cutlery would cost more than MOP1 million. DSPA would need to subsidize about MOP500,000–600,000.
This year, the organizer will set up more than 100 booths. It will also invite businesses from different countries, including the Kansai region of Japan, and set up a “Japanese village,” a Japanese cuisine zone, during the festival.
Due to the political tension between China and Japan, the festival cancelled the Japanese village in 2012.
