Haima passes peacefully through Macau

1-t-2-damagesshop_horta_e_costaTyphoon Haima’s passage through the region led the Weather Bureau (SMG) to effect signal 8 of the Severe Tropical Cyclone Warning System last Friday at 8:30am. All bridge links between the peninsula and Taipa island were closed from 10am, with the closure also brought into operation on the under passage of Sai Van Bridge from 9:30am the same day.
The signal remained in effect until 3:30pm when it was lowered to level 3.
During the seven hour duration of the level 8 Typhoon, the Civil Protection Operational Centre (COPC) registered a total of 14 incidents that resulted in only minor damages. During this time, no injuries were reported.
The majority of the cases (10) were reportedly occurrences like the fall of one metallic scaffolding unit, and four cases of outdoor light screens and or awnings that were forced loose by the cyclone. There were also two cases of damage to windows and shop fronts and three cases of fallen trees.
The four incidents recorded in housing were all relating to fallen objects with no major damage reported. MDT
