The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) has reinstated face mask requirements for aged care homes and rehabilitation centers.
Effective immediately, IAS has justified the measure by noting “winter and spring are the seasons with high incidence of respiratory infectious diseases in Macau.”
The bureau said in a statement that in preparation for upcoming festivals such as the winter solstice, Christmas and New Year, the IAS had consulted the Health Bureau and determined that from Dec. 2 (Saturday), visitors and staff to all aged care, rehabilitation and drug treatment homes in Macau must wear surgical masks meeting or exceeding specified standards at all times.
“Masks may only be removed when eating, drinking and other necessary situations,” according to the IAS.
Furthermore, visitors displaying symptoms of fever, fatigue, or respiratory symptoms such as sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose, cough, or with positive rapid antigen test results are not allowed to enter medical treatment venues.
The same bureau also noted staff members who develop any of the above symptoms should seek medical treatment immediately and should not return to work if their Covid-19 rapid antigen test result is positive.
