Jetfoils to return to operations, conservation group says

Following months of repair and renovation, the first Jetfoil is set to return, providing transportation between Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, according to the Jetfoil Conservation Concern Group.

The group, which closely follows developments concerning these historical vessels, said at least one jetfoil will soon return to operation, according to an internal source. However, the precise date is unspecified.

The first jetfoil slated to return will be the ‘Terceira,’ (IMO: 7910008) a Hydrofoil initially built in 1979. It began operation as the ‘Normandy Princess’ by Jetlink Ferries Ltd. One year later, the vessel was acquired by Far East Hydrofoil (now TurboJET Hong Kong) and has since been operating between Hong Kong and Macau.

According to the latest records, ‘Terceira’ is among five Boeing 929 model Jetfoils still active and owned by TurboJET, alongside vessels named Funchal, Horta, Cacilhas and Taipa.

“Our sources said Terceira will resume service shortly – if all goes to plan!” the group stated.

In early September, TurboJET’s official Facebook page said Jetfoils could not resume operation due to the construction of the fourth bridge between Macau and Taipa, noting it was unsafe to operate this vessel type during this phase.

“We know how much you guys miss our Jetfoils, and we are working with relevant departments on fairway construction to ensure that Jetfoils can pass through safely. We hope you all can ride a Jetfoil soon!” the operator noted.
