Local developer rejuvenates Pátio da Claridade

Pátio da Claridade will be revamped and transformed into a leisure and tourism hub with emphasis on culinary elements, the head of local developer Lek Hang Group has announced in a statement.

Sio Chong Meng, founder and president of the real property developer, was cited in a company statement as saying that he has plans to redevelop the aforementioned alley.

Lek Hang Group is the developer that revamped the Central Hotel and reopened it as new, boutique accommodation. Sio said that the hotel should be ready for its soft opening at the end of this month, with the government having concluded its inspections.

Comprising 48 two-story brick structures, Sio aims to transform the alley into an area with dozens of small eateries and bistros. Inns with special characters will also be introduced to the neighborhood, “to create benchmarks in the Inner Harbour district.”

The executive added that the plan is to use the eateries to attract tourists to older districts, ultimately enticing them to stay in these districts.

In September 2022, draft plans for certain structures in the alley were returned by the Urban Planning Committee; no consensus was, at that time, achieved to green light the proposed development. AL
