Fresh graduates at the congregation ceremony of the University of Science and Technology held last Saturday expressed concerns over the local employment market after the city recorded its twelfth consecutive month of plummeting gaming revenue.
Among the 1,150 attendees, out of a total of 2,500 graduates this academic year, students majoring in hotel management and tourism admitted that the unpleasant economic downturn in the field of hospitality and gaming was worrying.
“I’m worried, so I want to look for a job as a clerk. I also might take some courses,” a female student told TDM.
“I want to work in hotels because the major I did is related to hotel management. I’m also worried about the situation, yet so many hotels are opening soon, there should be plenty of opportunities,” another graduate added.
The school’s president chair professor Liu Liang advised students in his address that no matter how tough and long their roads ahead might be, they would surmount the rising obstacles with their “humanistic qualities” and “professional knowledge.” Staff reporter
