Local man jailed after purchasing heroin, ice via Taobao

A 44-year-old local man has been caught by the Judiciary Police (PJ) purchasing crystal methamphetamine, also known as ice, as well as heroin via the online platform Taobao, the PJ announced on Tuesday.

The arrest was revealed when the mainland police authorities informed their local counterparts that two parcels containing the drugs were on their way to Macau, and had been acquired by the same person in two different purchases.

The police decided to wait for the man to pick up the parcels before making the arrest, catching him red-
handed.

According to the mainland police, the first package had been sent in late February but there was a new one on the way. The drugs, disguised as toys and playing cards, had the destination address of a Taobao order collection point located in the NAPE district.

On March 13, three days after the second order had arrived and was available for collection, the man finally decided to collect both parcels together.

Following the man’s steps closely, the police detained him with the two packages.

One of the packages contained 11.1 grams of ice, while the other had 7.8 grams of heroin.

According to the PJ, the drugs had a market value of approximately 50,000 patacas.

The suspect has been sent to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigation on accusation of the crime of drug trafficking. The PJ did not reveal if the man intended to distribute the drugs or if they were for his own consumption.
