Veteran canoe athlete Racy Leong from local team Baía do Mar Canoeing Club has won the Women’s Canoe Marathon (Senior Section) in the Chinese Canoe and Stand-up Paddle-board Marathon Open 2021 – Wuxuan Station, beating contestants from across mainland China.

A founding member of the three-decade-old club, Leong represented the club and raced for more than four hours against the mountainous backdrop of the Wuxuan County. According to the club, she managed to maintain an advantage in the final 10 km before crossing the finish line and winning the race.
Two other members of the club, Sam Siu Heng and Sin Kit Sang, competed in the Men’s Canoe Marathon (Senior Section) and secured the second and third positions. Sam only lost with a 20-second difference to Zhang Xiuchong from Wenzhou following a tight race with alternate leads.
In the Junior Section of the same race, two younger athletes from the club, Kuok Ka Chun and Ip Chi In, finished sixth and tenth. The club described their results as satisfactory since it saw the race as a chance for them to gain experience in major events. AL
