The 17th Lusofonia Festival, a Portuguese Speaking Communities Cultural Festival in Macau, will be held from today until Sunday at the Taipa Houses-Museum. Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda Chan, inaugurated the event yesterday.
Booths, hosted by members of ten different Portuguese speaking communities, will showcase cultural and gastronomical aspects related to Macau, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Goa, Daman and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Principe and East Timor. As usual, the program includes musical performances by groups from those Portuguese speaking countries and regions.
The first Lusofonia Festival was held in 1998 on Portuguese Expatriate Day (June 10th) to honor Portuguese-speaking individuals who reside in Macau and have contributed to Macau’s development.
According to a press release issued by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), “a wide variety of festival events will be held in Taipa Houses-Museum on October 17th between 7pm and midnight, and October 18th and 19th between 12pm and midnight.”
