photoAva Chan Lai Cheng has departed from her role as editor-in-chief of  local newspaper All About Macau.  She has been replaced by experienced local journalist, Ng Sio Ngai.
All About Macau is famous for its liberal views on various social issues.
Ms Chan insists that there is no political implication in her departure. “It is a very common matter. (…) I can tell you that there is nothing special involved. There is no political prosecution whatsoever”, she told the Times.
Ms Chan said that she would like to take this chance to have a rest and to readjust her life. She also said that she has yet to come up with a plan about her future career.
The Times has also spoken to All About Macau’s new editor-in-chief Ng Sio Ngai, who said that nothing has changed since Ava Chan’s departure. “It’s only a change of name (of editor)”, she said.
“You can read [the paper] yourself – do you think there is any change? I think it is just the same”, she said.
Ms Ng said that she has always been a team member of the publication. Therefore, there is no significance in her taking over Ava Chan’s position. “As usual, we are insisting in our principles and keep on doing what we should do”, she added.
