Man sustains burns, arrested for setting fire to school

A 21-year-old local man was arrested at the scene after setting fire to the door of the Xinhua School in Iao Hon. It can be seen from an online video posted on social media that he sustained burns to all his limbs.

According to the police, during his arrest, the man did not say anything.

The video first showed him splashing a container of liquid along the entryway of the school building. The man then squatted down to set fire but when he stood up, fire was seen on his four limbs.

In both the online video and from the police statement, the man did not show any sign of fleeing the scene. With his limbs on fire, he wandered around the corner of the school building, attempting to put out the fire on his clothing.

When he started the arson, he was wearing a motorcycling helmet, but he removed this in the attempt to extinguish himself.

Later in the video, he took his clothes off, leaving only red briefs and socks.

The school evacuated 630 workers, teachers and students. There are no other injuries or casualties. The principal of the school assumed the suspect to be a former student.

Due to the criminal nature of the incident, the investigation has been passed to the Judiciary Police. AL
