Music | ‘Global Concert of Chinese Artists’ to premiere in Macau

The “Culture of China, Global Concert of Chinese Artists” will debut September 24, at 3 p.m. at the University Hall of the University of Macau.
The event celebrates the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and features works commemorating what would have been the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-Sen.
Lü Jia, music director of the Macau Orchestra, will be the artistic director and will conduct the “Overseas Chinese Orchestra”, which comprises nearly 100 musicians from 40 national or international orchestras.
The concert is organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. The program includes the works “Cheers for Sunrise” and “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy-Overture” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, excerpts from the opera “Peony Pavilion”; folk music “Chinese Sights” and “Sounds” arranged for orchestra by Bao Yuankai; the “4th movement of Symphony No. 9 in E minor” by Antonín Dvořák, the epic orchestral overture “Our Sun Yat-sen”, “I Love You, China”, “Mother”; “Toreador Song” from the opera “Carmen”, and the choral piece “I Love Mountain Wuzhi” and “River Wanquan”.
After the Macau performance, the next concert will be held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on the evening of September 27.
