The construction of flyovers in Zone A and B of Macau’s new landfills is slated to commence in the fourth quarter of this year, according to government officials.
The project, which has drawn media attention regarding its potential impact on the landscape surrounding the Guia lighthouse, was addressed by Deland Leong, the president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau in a recent TDM Forum.
She said only a small portion of the project would require the Chief Executive’s approval for the lighthouse’s landscape, and preliminary analysis has suggested the area involved would not be considered a building, thus minimizing its impact on the historical city.
The flyover will span approximately 3.2 kilometers, with a maximum elevation of 25.8 meters.
According to the Public Works Bureau, the project is not considered a building construction venture, and the height restriction around the Guia lighthouse does not apply.
Furthermore, the project’s location is not designated as a real property under the Cultural Heritage Protection Law, nor is it situated within a buffer zone.
The government official said the bureau and UNESCO have been in regular communication about the project, ensuring the necessary considerations are made to preserve the historic landscape.
