NPC | China to unveil Guangdong-HK-Macau plan

Chinese authorities will unveil and implement the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, which among others, seeks to promote coordinated regional development this year, Premier Li Keqiang said.

Unlike in previous years, Li’s speech did not make reference to the idea that Hong Kong and Macau are “governed by their people.” However, he mentioned “one country, two systems” as the ruling principle of the special administrative regions.

Beijing will promote mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas between the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau, Li said yesterday morning in a government work report delivered to the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC).

Over the past five years, exchanges and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macau have steadily increased, the Premier said, noting that the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge has now been completed.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area is one of China’s regions which requires coordinated development. Others include the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area and the Yangtze Economic Belt.

According to the report, the country will create a new regional landscape and make solid progress in the coordinated regional development strategy.  MDT/Xinhua
