Our Desk | Local sore loser

Julie Zhu

In Macau, hearing someone using the term “outsiders” is as normal as some stupid human beings thinking that lunch must happen at 12 and dinner must happen at 9.

Macau is a place full of local sore losers, but why?

Look at the Macau locals: while they make, on average, MOP20,000 per month, they try their best to make sure whoever makes less than that will never make it past MOP20,000.

What do the non-locals do in Macau?

I once heard a Macau local, believe it or not, complaining about the fact that “Filipinos are in high positions, but not the Macau locals.” I asked that person why. The person told me “because they speak English.”

So, Macau locals, if you know the reason, then why do you want people to show less capability than you so that you can keep your 20,000 patacas? Why can your brilliance and brightness only be seen or shown when other people perform below their real abilities? Why do you want your wife to stay home doing housework in order for people to say that you, as the husband, are amazing because you are the bread-winner of the family?

Instead of crying every single day that mainlanders or Asians took your job, your executive position, and took your money, would you dare to go onto the streets and say something that actually revealed your lack of capabilities?

Where is your boss from? Where is your company manager from? Why don’t you ask the local government to put on a protectionism mechanism dedicated to you, the sore loser.

You cannot, right? Because you are scared, you are scared of losing your 20,000 patacas and that is why you are making all that noise, making sure that whoever makes less than you will never overtake you in terms of salary.

For once, just learn something.

Before 1999, people from the European continent were better than the Macau locals. After 1999, mainlanders are better than the Macau “talents.” Have you ever spent a single second wondering why that is? Have you ever really tried to open your eyes and open your heart to observe and learn a bit, rather than simply complaining that “they are taking our jobs, they are disrespecting us, they are creating problems”?

It is hilarious that thousands of people from a “World Tourism and Leisure Center” went to the streets demanding the exclusion of those who threaten their survival but not those who already conquered; that’s what losers do.

It is beyond any doubt that the non- locals are creating problems in Macau, but it is also beyond any doubt that the non-locals are making Macau. Macau locals are in the middle, what can they do? Macau locals, you are neither the brain of the city, or the body of the city. Those who design this city are not Macau locals, and those who build this city are also not Macau locals.

Macau locals, you have every reason to fight for your 20,000 patacas, but remember dictatorship because the Macau locals allow only themselves to voice their opinions.
