The newly established office to address cases of workers dismissed from junket companies and casino VIP rooms has received a total 208 inquiries, according to recent data.
Recently, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) expressed concerns about “the impact of the Suncity incident on their employees’ labor relations.”
The DSAL has previously noted having received several inquiries and requests for help and so the bureau has decided to set up a special counter at the Tai Peng Industrial Building branch, in the surroundings of the border gate.
On the first day of the office on Monday, 22 out of 23 individuals registered for job-matching at the DSAL office near the Border Gate were former employees at Suncity Group.
The bureau has also received several inquiries and complaints online and through telephone.
When asked how long it would take the bureau to handle these requests, an acting department head at the DSAL said it would depend on each individual case. The bureau will confirm and follow-up with the employers after receiving the requisite information from the help-seekers.
