Over 90% of the nearly 6,000 opinions collected during the public consultation period of the national security law are in favor of the amendments that will be made in the bill.
“After summarizing the opinions gathered and comparing the opinions, […] the majority of opinions are in favor of the guidelines and content of the revision of the [national security law] of the government of the Macau SAR, which fully showed the deep feeling of ‘love for the country and love for Macau’ of the various sectors of society and the strong will of the population in relation to the defense of the general security of the state,” authorities said in the report.
According to a conclusion report of the public consultation, the small number of opposing opinions (0.4%) may not be “well aware of the laws of Macau, especially the criminal law and the legal system for the defense of national security.”
The rest were classified as others or invalid.
Therefore, the government pledged that it will “continue to carry out legal dissemination campaigns in this area.”
Launched August 22 and with a duration of 45 days until October 5, the public consultation of the national security law aimed to collect opinions from different sectors and the public in general, “to gather the consensus of the society.”
The law, which he indicated will become the “most important law of Macau,” aims to put an end to the “many threats and new challenges presented” to ensure the stability of the region.
Recently, on the sidelines of the opening of the new judiciary year, president of the Macau Lawyers’ Association (AAM), Jorge Neto Valente, said that at the current stage of the public consultation, it is difficult to understand clearly the real changes that the government wants to promote on the national security law.
