Public buses to accept Wechat Pay from Hong Kong, mainland

Local public buses will accept fare payments via WeChat Pay from mainland China and Hong Kong from Sept. 24, according to the Transport Bureau (DSAT).

Responding to the increasing use of electronic payment methods, the transport authorities have partnered with the Monetary Authority (AMCM), bus companies and payment institutions to offer passengers various payment options.

Starting tomorrow, users can pay bus fares using the mainland and Hong Kong versions of WeChat Pay by scanning the ride code displayed on public buses.

The fare will remain MOP6 per trip, with no discounts for transfers or other reductions.

Since July 2023, the two primary bus operators, TCM and Transmac, have been trialing Alipay and WeChat Pay for bus fares.

Currently, nearly 92% of public bus fares support electronic payments, including options like Macau Pass, Easy Pay+, UnionPay (for local users), and Alipay (for mainland China and Hong Kong users). LV
