Tourism | Hotel Sun Sun revamps restaurant with a taste of Macanese and Portuguese food

IMG_0134Hotel Sun Sun’s restaurant has been revamped and is now focusing on Portuguese and Macanese gastronomy. Located in the Inner Harbor area, Hotel Sun Sun is also due to be renovated by famed Portuguese architect Siza Vieira.
“The Square Restaurant” offers a Macanese and Portuguese-inspired menu, also providing traditional dishes sprinkled with a Chinese flavor.
The restaurant’s menu is designed and prepared by Chinese chef Ji Hui Li, who has worked in different Portuguese restaurants before.
A food tasting event that was held last week showcased some of the most popular dishes on the menu. The famed Caldo Verde soup with a bit of a spicy flavor; jumbo shrimps in garlic sauce, grilled cuttlefish with baked potatoes, roast beef, and duck rice are just some of the options on the menu.
The restaurant reopened with the new menu in July. The chef is focusing on family-portion dishes, mixing Portuguese and Macanese flavors.
Hotel Sun Sun, located in Praça Ponte e Horta, is also due to be revamped by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. The hotel is owned by the family of Yany Kwan, who owns a recently opened gallery in the city center, Macpro Gallery.
They are hoping to revamp the whole area while renovating the hotel, working toward sustainable growth and providing an environment ideal for small and medium-sized enterprises to establish in the Inner Harbor area.
Siza Vieira said in a recent press conference that the hotel will undergo major changes in its interior design, in order to create “a new character.” Alongside architect Carlos Castanheira, Siza intends to introduce a new interior design strategy, focusing on the room display, furniture and lighting.
Despite wanting to introduce a few changes to the façade and the exteriors, the architects plan to maintain the existing structure. CP
