The White House said President Donald Trump was left feeling “furious” and “disgusted” after claims by his former top adviser Steve Bannon in a new book.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders complained yesterday [Macau time] the book contained “outrageous” and “completely false claims against the president, his administration and his family.”

She added that the book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” by Michael Wolff, is filled with “false and misleading accounts from individuals who have no access or influence with the White House.”

The criticism was spurred by Wolff’s account that paints Trump as a leader who doesn’t understand the weight of the presidency.

A lawyer for President Donald Trump is threatening legal action against former White House strategist Steve Bannon over what he calls “disparaging statements and in some cases outright defamatory statements” in a new book.

Trump attorney Charles Harder has sent a letter to Bannon, saying the former Trump aide violated confidentiality agreements by speaking with reporter Michael Wolff for a book. The letter demands Bannon “cease and desist” any further disclosure of confidential information.

In the book, Bannon is quoted as describing a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump Jr., Trump campaign aides and a Russian lawyer as “treasonous.”

Bannon did not immediately respond to a request for comment. ABC News first reported the letter from Harder.

Trump says that when Steve Bannon was fired, “he not only lost his job, he lost his mind.”

The new book by Michael Wolff offers a series of explosive revelations and allegations. It paints Trump as a leader who doesn’t understand the weight of the presidency and spends his evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television and talking on the phone to old friends.

Other Trump’s representatives and first lady Melania Trump are also pushing back against the explosive new book that, among other things, says Trump never expected to be elected and that his wife shed tears, but not of joy, on election night. MDT/AP
