Two killed in traffic accident

Local police have launched an inquiry into a severe traffic accident that occurred near the hangar of the Macau International Airport yesterday afternoon at around two o’clock, resulting in two fatalities.
The accident, which killed a motorcyclist on the spot, involved a motorbike, a truck, as well as a cab. The initial investigation disclosed that the dead scooter driver, aged 24, was a local while the passenger was a 27-year-old migrant laborer. The latter was later pronounced dead in hospital. It also suspected that both were run over by the truck.
A large part of the motorbike embroiled in the deadly crash was badly mangled, with the driver’s belongings seen scattered across the ground.
Both the local taxi and truck drivers, who both passed a breathalyzer test, are currently under police investigation.
A self-claimed witness told the media outlet that the cause of the fatal accident was linked to one of the vehicles passing the others. The incident caused traffic congestion to the nearby area.
The Institute for Tourism Studies last night issued a statement verifying the identity of one of the victims as a junior student. The institute offered to provide assistance to his family and organize ad hoc counseling services for students and teaching staff.
The police made an appeal yesterday calling on witnesses to report any details to them on 2837 4214.
Multiple construction projects underway in Cotai have turned certain parts of the district into accident hot spots. Large vehicles commute between Macau and Taipa every day along the diverted roads, most of which have become narrower and bumpier, and without clear road signs indicating directions.
