Wellness | Union of the body and mind

Many think of yoga as merely a workout to tone muscles and keep the body fit, yet very few understand the deeper meaning of it and pursuit the spiritual aspect with due respect.
At Mandarin Oriental, Macau, wellness coach Hio Lou Chang, affectionally named Lou Lou, teaches private yoga classes that not only focus on the body, but also the mind.
“To map out the intentions of yoga, I tell my students that it has eight limbs, which are abstinences, observances, yoga postures, breath control, withdrawal of the senses, concentration, meditation, and absorption. It is also about discipline and having a purpose in life,” she explains.
Indeed, yoga was a tool used by the ancient sages of India to attain enlightenment and was created to be a way of life, not just a workout. Driven to foster a community attuned to spirituality, Lou Lou also wrote a book about her own transformation, sharing her travel experiences around the world and lessons she learned through contemplation.
Private lessons with her could be arranged through The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Macau and venue could be chosen between the beautiful outdoor pool deck and a comfortable, indoor air-conditioned space. IS
